It’s an age old problem; we want to do what we want to do, when we want to do it

James 4: 7b-8a
“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and He will come near to you.”
Sounds like two simple concepts, so why is it so hard for us to resist the devil and draw closer to God?
It’s an age old problem; we want to do what we want to do, when we want to do it. We don’t see temptations or trials as works of the devil, we see them as day to day obstacles, so we just stroll through them on our own. Resisting the devil will make him flee!
Coming near to God is the same problem, we want to do things our way, in out time, on our terms. Amazing, why can’t we realize that coming close to God brings real life, real peace, real joy.
